TITLE: Natural communication with the horse and the possibilities of human - horse interaction AUTHOR: Bc. Lenka Volfová DEPARTMENT: Department of Biology and Enviromnental Studies (Katedra biologie a enviromnentálních studií) SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Kateřina Jančaříková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: This thesis explores interspecies communication and, specifically, natural communication between the man and the horse. Through comparative research based on a programme developed by Ing. Josef Liška (Liška Solutions) for the assessment of the participant's personality, employing several exercises with a horse from the ground, the thesis aims at introducing ways in which horses can be used for the purposes of personal growth. For the purposes of this thesis, volunteers from three groups were assessed under this programme using the method of direct observation: teachers, business executives and people who work with animals. The assessment was carried out by marking down points and comments. On the basis of the results obtained, the above three groups were subsequently compared among one another. The research shows that teachers excelled in six out of seven observed personal competencies while, compared to business executives, there is still space for improvement in terms of their energy. Educational programme about horses for horse rider

The educational programme "How to understand horses and how to make horses understand you" is an opportunity to apply essential knowledge of ethology and evolution of the horses in the riding club environment. This bachelor thesis concerns formation an educational programme to enable riders to understand the basic aspects of the evolution and ethology of horses. Its theoretical part works out an overview from the fields of evolution, domestication and ethology of the horses and the problems which are responsible for the prevailing current method of hobby and sport horse breeding. Its practical part contains a description of a proposed all-day education programme, which includes the above mentioned topics placing emphasis on acquired knowledge into practice at the riding club. The programme is in the form of an education project in which the participants become scientists for a whole day at the conference of ethology of horse. A set of worksheets has been created for the programme. The outcome of this work is an implemented educational programme. Its discourse part contains proposals for further improvement of the programme, which followed the pilot project.
The Natural Methods of Education and Training Horses and Their Kind of Use

Bachelor thesis summarizes literature documents related to use of natural methods of education and training horses (called Natural Horsemanship), including the importance of history and development of the methods used in the Czech Republic and abroad and the most important representatives of these methods. Own research includes the evaluation questionnaires 81 respondents, summarizing the use of natural methods of education and training horses in southwestern Bohemia. The aim of the study was evaluation and specification the differences between the breeders of horses using traditional and natural methods of training in terms of number and kind of horses, the length and orientation of breeding, bred breeds and the metod of use of horses in various equestrian disciplines. The questionnaire contained 16 questions. The result of this research is shown in the graphs and tables. The results of the questionnaire show natural methods of training horses begin to penetrate among horse owners in southwest Bohemia, mostly in the form of courses and also through the Internet. However several farmers have adequate mentoring of the active exploitation of these natural methods. Natural methods are still the most widespread among owners who own less horses (2-4 horses), cattle deal shorter period of time (5-7 years) and using their horses only to the tourist or recreational riding, major expansion among sport riders (except western disciplines) are still missing. Bred breeds Qarter horse, Haflinger, Czech Warmblood, Appaloosa and hybrids are the most used horses among the farmers which use natural method of training. The most widespread method is Pat Parelli´s method. Most breeders working with natural methods of training horses are very experienced in solving troubles concluding with the behavior of their horses and also indicate improving of confidence and co-operation during their aplication.
